CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi) and Hospital Pengajar Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (HPUNIMAS) have launched MediRover and MediDoc, two cutting-edge digital healthcare solutions aimed at improving access for underserved communities across Sarawak. The launch, officiated by YAB Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof at HPUNIMAS, underscores the potential of technology to transform healthcare delivery.
Sarawak’s challenging geography and dispersed population have long limited access to medical care. MediRover, a mobile clinic powered by CelcomDigi’s 5G and satellite connectivity, brings virtual doctors, AI-driven diagnostics, and remote patient monitoring directly to rural areas. MediDoc establishes “Klinik Angkat” hubs in villages, enabling frontline healthcare workers to consult HPUNIMAS specialists in real time using telemedicine, wearable monitoring devices, and portable imaging.
The solutions reduce patient travel, cut wait times, and strengthen local clinical capacity, while delivering scalable, data-driven healthcare. MediRover has already reached over 30 underserved locations, benefiting around 8,000 Sarawakians, and MediDoc proof-of-concept trials in Ulu Skrang, Long Busang Belaga, and Lubuk Antu under the KPT Prihatin MADANI programme have validated the model’s effectiveness.
“This partnership shows how 5G, AI, and satellite connectivity can bring faster, smarter, and more inclusive healthcare to communities traditionally out of reach,” said CelcomDigi Chief Innovation Officer, T. Kugan. HPUNIMAS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, added, “Through MediRover and MediDoc, our teaching hospital extends expertise beyond the campus, improving health outcomes and empowering communities.”
The launch coincided with a tripartite MoA between CelcomDigi, HPUNIMAS, and Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (PPUM), reinforcing a shared commitment to expand digital healthcare access, pilot connected hospital models, and advance research, training, and innovation in telemedicine and AI-powered healthcare.
Together, these initiatives demonstrate how technology and collaboration can transform healthcare delivery, setting a scalable model for Malaysia’s 5G-AI-enabled digital health future.
