Reinforcing its commitment to training staff and developing technologies locally to strengthen and sustain Australian Defence Industry capability, Mr Aaron Snoswell of University of Queensland spent 12 weeks working alongside XTEK’s renowned technical team at its facilities in Canberra.

The Defence Engineering Internship Program (DEIP) is an initiative of and funded by the Defence Materiel Organisation. The Program is managed by AITEC Pty Ltd in association with Australian Defence & Industry Network. DEIP is currently in its third round of placements with 60 engineering internships already completed over the past two years.

Currently completing a Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering, Aaron worked with XTEK on a wide range of Defence-related equipment including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Specialist Tactical Reconnaissance Vehicles, remote X-Ray Imaging Systems and Bomb Disposal Robots in the Company’s Logistic Engineering Division (LED).

The XTEK LED is a key element of the XTEK capability, providing clients with the very highest standards of servicing and through-life support and maintenance for cutting-edge technical equipment from its Canberra base, offering clients regional advice and assistance 24 hours a day with a swift local turn around on technical support.

Manager of the XTEK LED, Mr Al Akkawy said: “Aaron fitted straight into the XTEK team upon arrival and was involved in a particularly wide and diverse range of technical projects. This was a highly beneficial experience for Aaron, Defence Industry and XTEK and underscores the importance of the Defence Engineering Internship Program in the development of the next generation of Defence Industry engineering specialists.”

Aaron Snoswell added: “My internship at XTEK was a great opportunity. I loved working with the team and gained valuable, first-hand experience working in the Defence sector. I believe this internship helped position me for a great career in the Defence industry.”

XTEK recognises the importance of investing in Australian Defence Industry to maintain a world-class industry base and is proud to have been able to participate in the Defence Engineering Internship Program.
