Long-Term External Security Threats from Indonesia’s Perspective – Part 2: Australia and ASEAN Stability

0

In this paper, FDI Research Analyst Jarryd de Haan examines how Australia and stability in South-East Asia could be two long-term security concerns from the perspective of the Indonesian Government. In the case of Australia, there are suspicions surrounding its strategic motives in the region, which stem from past actions that opposed Indonesian interests. Those suspicions are unlikely to influence the relationship, however, unless new geopolitical pressures surface. Maintaining regional stability will also remain a priority for the Indonesian Government, as external and internal pressures threaten disunity among South-East Asian countries.
