HID, Soloinsight and Connected Technology Solutions (CTS) have announced an integrated self-service visitor check-in kiosk aimed at global enterprises and critical infrastructure sites, combining document authentication, facial verification and visitor management in a single workflow.
The companies said the kiosk integrates HID’s hardware-based HID ATOM document reader and HID U.ARE.U facial recognition module with Soloinsight’s CloudGate visitor management and physical identity and access management (PIAM) platform. The stated aim is to let organisations verify a visitor’s identity before issuing access credentials, while creating an auditable record of visitor activity.
The release argues that many high-traffic facilities—including hospitals, data centres, offices and logistics hubs—still rely on processes that capture limited identity information, such as a name entered on a tablet or a visual check of a photo ID. It says this can create risks for regulated or high-risk sites, including unauthorised entry, gaps in audit trails and compliance issues when organisations cannot demonstrate who was onsite and when.
How it works
Under the described process, a host pre-registers a visitor in CloudGate, which sends an email invitation containing a QR code. At the kiosk, the visitor scans the QR code and verifies their identity using the HID ATOM document scanner, which reads passports, driver’s licences and mobile IDs. The HID U.ARE.U Face Module then performs live face verification and rejects scans that do not match the identity document or are not deemed a live face.
CloudGate confirms check-in, the kiosk prints a visitor pass and the host is notified, according to the announcement. The companies also said returning visitors can be permitted to check in without a host where appropriate.
Following verification, CloudGate records each transaction in a centralised visitor record intended to support investigations, reporting and regulatory compliance, the release said.
Key differentiators
The companies pointed to identity assurance as a driver for using a dedicated document reader instead of relying on a phone camera, saying the HID ATOM captures encoded data on documents—such as barcodes and RFID or NFC chips—and checks document integrity features. They also said a single reader can accept multiple credential types, including QR codes, passports, driver’s licences and mobile IDs.
The release further claims CloudGate can produce audit evidence across “40-plus frameworks” including HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, and that the platform can sit over existing access control environments via physical access control system connectors and integrations spanning IT, HR, identity and access management, and security information and event management tools.
CTS said the kiosk is engineered and fabricated at its Wisconsin headquarters and includes a three-year warranty and ADA compliance.
