Cybersecurity and compliance company Proofpoint has appointed JP Yu as Vice President of Southeast Asia and Korea (SAK). In his new role, Yu will lead Proofpoint’s sales organisation in the SAK region, which includes Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea, and continue to drive the company’s growth and expansion across the region.

Yu is a seasoned leader with over 20 years of experience in the cybersecurity and risk management space, where he has led high-performance teams to drive business success and worked with many multinational corporations and partners across the region. This appointment underscores Proofpoint’s ongoing commitment to investing in a high-growth region that is strategically important to the company.

“I’m thrilled to join Proofpoint, a trusted cybersecurity leader, for its commitment to protecting people who are at the heart of every business,” said Yu. “In Southeast Asia and Korea region, where digital transformation is accelerating rapidly, organisations face increasingly sophisticated threats targeting their people and data. I’m excited to bring Proofpoint’s award-winning, human-centric cybersecurity platform to this region, helping our customers navigate an evolving threat landscape and protect what matters most: their people, their businesses, and their customers.”

As the cyber threat landscape continues to evolve, human error remains one of the top concerns for regional CISOs, with 67% citing this as their biggest vulnerability in Singapore, according to Proofpoint’s 2024 Voice of the CISO Report.

To combat this, the majority (86%) of CISOs in Singapore are looking to deploy AI-powered capabilities to help protect against human error and advanced human-centred cyber threats. While regional security leaders are concerned about cyberattacks, they are demonstrating increasing confidence in their ability to defend against them: just 36% feel their organisation is unprepared to cope with a targeted cyber attack, compared to 55% in 2023 and 39% in 2022.

Before joining Proofpoint, JP held positions at NetWitness, Dell-EMC, Hitachi, Fujitsu and Avanade, where he drove business development and sales in the SAK region. Yu is based in Singapore.

“Our expansion across the region is strategic, and I am excited to welcome someone of JP Yu’s calibre, with deep expertise in cybersecurity and a strong understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in Southeast Asia and Korea,” said George Lee, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific and Japan at Proofpoint. “I believe his leadership will be pivotal in driving growth and strengthening our mission to protect people and defend data in one of the world’s most dynamic markets.”
