More than 9 in 10 users say they would recommend COBIT 5
ISACA’s COBIT framework, which helps organisations of all sizes and in all industries govern and manage their information and technology, turns 20 this year. In a new survey of COBIT users, more than 9 in 10 say they would recommend the COBIT 5 framework to others.
COBIT 5 enables organisations worldwide to improve business performance by managing their information and technology more effectively. The COBIT framework offers guidance, tools and resources that allow enterprises to implement effective processes and maximise stakeholder value.
That impact is evident in results from ISACA’s 2016 Global COBIT Survey. More than 3 in 4 survey respondents indicate that COBIT 5 helps them address practical business issues beyond governance of enterprise IT (GEIT).
“COBIT 5 leverages proven practices and global thought leadership to enable enterprises of all sizes to enhance stakeholder value, especially with IT being a key enabler of business innovation,” said Christos Dimitriadis, Ph.D., CISA, CISM, CRISC, chair of ISACA’s board of directors and group director of information security for INTRALOT. “COBIT has evolved throughout its 20 years to become an even more dynamic framework, facilitating successful governance and management of enterprise IT.”
The majority of survey respondents believe that their enterprises have a need for improvement in integrating business and IT, improving risk management and improving cybersecurity. Those three areas also were identified as the top benefits enterprises can achieve through the use of a framework such as COBIT.
COBIT’s ability to address those critical needs helps explain why there have been more than 610,000 downloads of COBIT 5 publications to date and 11,677 COBIT 5 exams taken in 2015 alone. Since COBIT online launched in September 2014, it has received more than 890,000 page views.
“The areas business executives and IT leaders are targeting for enterprise improvement, business transformation and innovation align with several of the strongest benefits provided by COBIT 5,” Dimitriadis said. “Enterprises of all sizes—whether in the private or public sectors—recognize that COBIT 5 simplifies IT governance and is instrumental in their organisations’ success.”
More than two-thirds of survey respondents indicate that COBIT 5 helped them become more thorough in addressing risk management, and the majority of respondents consider COBIT 5 an asset in helping them take a cross-enterprise view of IT projects and becoming more focused on value creation.
COBIT 5’s principles and enablers help organisations take a holistic approach to managing and governing information and related technology be governed holistically throughout an enterprise. Ultimately, the framework allows organisations to create value from IT by striking a balance between realising benefits and optimizing risk levels.
Twenty years after its launch—amid rising global cybersecurity threats—the guidance COBIT provides is becoming even more essential. More than 82% of survey respondents say the current cyber threat landscape has caused their organisation’s leadership to value more highly the importance of GEIT.
