Rohde & Schwarz is set to supply its QPS201 millimeter wave security scanners to passenger screening checkpoints across five Airports of Thailand (AOT)-managed airports, including Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, which AOT says handles about 60 million passengers a year.
The company said the QPS201 units use advanced imaging technology (AIT) and AI-based algorithms to detect prohibited items while aiming to reduce false alarms. It said the scanners display potential threats on a standardised digital avatar, rather than showing personal attributes, and require passengers to adopt a hands-down pose during screening.
Rohde & Schwarz said the QPS201 has US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) qualification for use in US passenger screening checkpoints and certification to European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) standards. The company said more than 2,000 systems have been deployed globally.
AOT said it selected the QPS201 based on its performance and accuracy, citing faster security clearance and an improved passenger experience alongside enhanced screening.
