International solar developer ib vogt has begun commercial electricity generation at its Tantangan Solar Power Plant in South Cotabato, Philippines, following an energisation ceremony held yesterday, less than one year after the project’s groundbreaking.
The 99 megawatt-peak (MWp) project is ib vogt’s second solar development in Mindanao. The company said the facility has been recognised as a national priority project under the Philippines’ clean energy agenda and is larger than many solar projects in the country, which it said typically range between 10 and 50MWp.
ib vogt said the project integrates solar generation with battery storage, aiming to provide a more dispatchable supply in a region where electricity demand exceeds supply and where grid reliability remains a constraint.
Once fully operational, the company expects Tantangan Solar to generate more than 150GWh of electricity annually—enough to power more than 82,000 households—while avoiding more than 66,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
