While Australian business leaders are sold on the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and opportunities to gain from innovation in emerging geographies, they need greater support and partnership to overcome practical business challenges.

A recent roundtable event was hosted by FPT and co-hosted by Pham Hung Tam, Vietnam’s ambassador to Australia, and Francis Wong, chairman of the Australia-ASEAN Business Forum, where business leaders gathered to discuss the potential for stronger collaboration between Australia and Vietnam.

“Australian organisations operating in today’s dynamic landscape are pivoting away from traditionally established hubs to look at opportunities in new geographies,” said FPT Australasian MD Minh Tran. “Emerging markets like Vietnam are increasingly associated with competitive advantages in innovation, scalability, and digital infrastructure.”

“Leading Australian businesses are recognising Vietnam as an attractive trading partner in technology for areas like AI and by working together and sharing expertise, we can further unlock digital transformation’s true potential.”

While the potential of emerging technologies in innovation is unquestionable, the business leaders in attendance highlighted practical concerns that need to be addressed, including data interoperability and connectivity. Specifically, the last mile problem, extracting actionable insights from consolidated data, was highlighted as a major hurdle.

“We are greatly encouraged by the robust discussion and initiatives to boost shared technology expertise and collaborative problem-solving to advance digital innovation in Australia, strengthen economic ties, and drive sustainable growth,” said Ambassador Pham.

Participants expressed support for continued dialogues in areas like AI, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure. The discussion also highlighted investment opportunities in Adelaide, including direct air connectivity between Adelaide and Vietnam for the freight and logistics sector.

“As Australian organisations look to solve customer-specific challenges, we are excited to work with them in co-creation and collaborative problem-solving, which will create immense opportunity for improved operational excellence and innovation for both nations,” added Tran.
